Whirlpool SA (KIC)
Company profile
Whirlpool has been introducing innovative design worldwide since 1911. With strategic investments being made in the brand, innovation, manufacturing and the community, it’s no wonder why Whirlpool is the leading household appliance manufacturer in the world.
Although it is a major concern now; more than 30 years ago Whirlpool realised its commitment to environmental protection and natural resource efficiency - developing the Whirlpool Environmental Strategy.
Not only does Whirlpool’s Environmental Strategy look at how the appliances are designed and manufactured, but also focuses on the actual use of the appliance. About 90% of the total CO2 emissions occur during the use phase. This is as a result of indirect emissions that are created through the production of electricity; natural gas and other resources appliances use to function.
This is why Whirlpool has developed the 6th Sense range of products that optimizes the use of resources, leading to significant water and energy savings. With products that Sense, Control and Adapt to the functions of the appliances, many leisure resorts are realising cost savings of up to 50% (on selected models) on water and energy.
The 6th Sense range includes: Ovens, Microwave Ovens, Microwaves, Washing Machines, Tumble Dryers, Dishwashers and Refrigeration.
In addition to the 6th Sense technology, Whirlpool appliances boast excellent energy efficiencies. For example, Whirlpool refrigeration carries both A and A+ ratings, realising up to 25% less electricity consumption.
Whirlpool’s range of appliances are geared towards domestic or similar use, with exceptions such as the Heavy Duty Top Loader Washer and Dryer which have been installed into Laundromats due to their durability and load capacity (up to 10 loads per day). In addition, there is the Dreamspace Washing Machine which offers a load capacity of 10kg.
