Noah Soap Project
Company profile
NOAH SOAP (including Hope Soap)
Our vision, ‘Home, health and happiness for every older person’: informs every aspect of our work in supporting state pensioners.
Started in 1981 NOAH provides housing, health and social support, as well as advocates for services for older persons through the promotion and replication of our model, collaboration with sector partners and forming working partnerships with Government.
With a rapidly ageing population, and a crumbling community fabric, South Africa is facing a crisis. But we see potential and possibility.
We believe that older persons are an enormous resource and the backbone of our communities.
We believe that older persons deserve and are able to live fully independent, happy, economically and socially contributing lives.
We believe that by supporting older persons to remain independent, we are not only reducing the burden of care for families, communities and the State, but we are enabling them to be contributors to society, supporting these families and communities.
We believe that NOAH has a uniquely integrated model of support to ensure that older persons and communities are strengthened.
NOAH Soap was initiated in 2010 in Khayelitsha. Discarded soap from leading hotels is renewed, reused and resupplied. The project offers 4 ranges:
- 50g luxury bar: R10
- 25g hospitality bar: R4
- Soap Bag: R10
- Laundry flakes R1
The Soap makers receive 75% of the net income.
NOAH Candles started as a craft project using discarded wax to make beautiful new candles. Other aspects have also been added: teaching candle making and selling cleaned old wax by the kilogram. Apart from our decorative range, NOAH Candles has developed a sample range to supply to churches. Various shapes and sizes are available, may be made to order and are priced according to weight.
